Our commitment
IIAIM’s education, research and statements are independent of commercial interests. Companies may support IIAIM’s mission. They never control or influence what we teach, what we find or what we say.
IIAIM is not currently an accredited provider of continuing medical education. This policy nonetheless follows the principles of the ACCME Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited Continuing Education. As a result, our programs can meet the expectations of accredited partners.
Principles
- Independent content. IIAIM alone determines educational needs, content, faculty and learning methods. IIAIM alone determines research questions, methods and conclusions.
- Valid content. Clinical recommendations rest on current science and evidence. We identify discussion of emerging approaches as such.
- No commercial control. Owners and employees of companies that produce health care products may not plan or control educational content.
- Disclosure. We disclose and manage every relevant financial relationship of planners, faculty and authors.
- Separation of promotion. We keep marketing, exhibits and sponsor activities separate from educational content.
- Publication regardless of results. Supporters of research have no right to review findings before publication, to delay publication or to suppress results.
Support we may accept
- Unrestricted educational grants under a written agreement, with funds managed by IIAIM.
- Event sponsorship and exhibits, clearly separated from educational sessions.
- In-kind support, such as access to software, on the same terms.
Support we do not accept
- Support conditioned on content, speakers, topics or findings.
- Payments from supporters to individual faculty for IIAIM activities.
- Requests to endorse products or to share participants’ personal information.
Transparency
IIAIM publishes the names of organizations that provide financial support. Each supported activity acknowledges its supporters.
